Designing Domesticity Our Home Projects Food Services Shop About

Breaking out of a Rut

Today, I thought I would take a break from all the house stuff we have going on ( just virtually, of course, because projects are in full swing at the house and there's no stopping that! ) to share a new service that I tried recently, Stitchfix. Have you heard of it? It's pretty hot in blogland, which is how I found out about it, so maybe it's not new to you, either. But, at any rate, I was so happy with the service I thought I would share my experience.

Stitchfix is basically like having your very own online stylist. Registering online is quick, easy and fun with a series of questions about sizing, style, price point (cheap, like me!) and loads of images to click through to help the stylist understand your needs. Click here to register.
Select a "fix" date, pay $20, which goes directly toward anything you decide to purchase, and the next thing you know, you have a cute little package sitting on your front porch. Happy days!

Here's why I decided to try it out:
1. While shopping with friends, I've often heard - "Don't you already have that shirt? How many tunics do you own, anyway?"
2. My own father said to me, "Wow, i didn't know you owned anything other than flowy shirts!" (now you know where I get my sarcasm.)
3. Having just moved to the South, I am constantly stumped by peoples wardrobe choices. It's only late August, still quite warm, and people are already busting out the pants, sweaters and boots. Meanwhile, I'm sporting my typical tunic and shorts. Or worse yet, tank and shorts, which I have yet to see anyone else wear.

But, enough about me and my poor style choices, and back to the details of Stitchfix.

Typically, you receive 5 items. In my first package I discovered: minty skinny jeans (anyone who knows me personally can attest to my colored denim love affair), a loose knit cream sweater (flowy, but not a tunic. totally different, right?), a navy wrap dress (versatile and a great alternative to shorts), a coral cardigan (yum, coral, quite possibly my favorite color) and a chunky statement necklace (who doesn't love one?). All right up my alley. How did they do that?!?!?

Straight to my room for a fashion show. So much better than those horrid florescent changing room lights!
You have 3 days to decide what you would like to keep and what you will send back. They even enclose a prepaid shipment bag to make sending back anything or everything simple. If you decide to keep all 5 items, you receive 25% off the entire order. Bonus!

Another favorite feature: the little cards attached to each item that picture whole outfit suggestions. So simple even the most fashion deprived could put a cute outfit together.
Oh, Stitchfix, I see you quickly becoming my style rut salvation.
Try it out, you will not be disappointed. Register by clicking here.
